Maintaining Our Historical Landscape
GD Stonemasons Ltd has been involved in maintaining our historical landscape.
Some of the following projects we worked in include:
The Wales Coast Path
We created a large marker stone, made from the Welsh Native Marble “Halkyn Marble”, which stands in Chepstow.
On this same path in Bagillt, we produce a Limestone Gatepost, which leads down to the river. Our work was featured on BBC One’s “Weatherman Walking”.

The Offa’s Dyke Path
We supplied and fixed a polished limestone a sculpture at Prestatyn, marking the beginning of Offa’s Dyke Path (an ancient earthworks constructed in the 8th Century).
Rhes y Cae Millennium Cairn
We built the Millennium Cairn at Moel Ffagnallt in Rhes y Cae, marking this ancient upland fort. This cairn appears on the front cover of the book “Walks Around Holywell & Halkyn Mountain” by David Berry.
Brynford Quarry Limekilns
We restored the listed Brynford Limekilns, removing years of vegetation, rebuilding and re-pointing with traditional lime mortar. These kilns produced hydraulic lime which was used in the construction of the Liverpool Docks, as well as the bridges at Menai and Runcorn.
Conservation Information Plaques
We have provided several Stone displays for historical information plaques on Halkyn Mountain.
